They were closed for many months last year for restacking for safety, and to have to go do it again is a shame. I just read an update that over the weekend of September 18-20th vandals broke in and damaged the neatly stacked rows of skulls and bones, scattering them along the pathways posing "safety" concerns for visitors. It's really too bad the lack of respect that people have for historical sites around the world. Many locations we've been to have graffiti and other vandalism all over them. When I went to Europe last year the catacombs had just opened up literally a week before. They do a lot of upkeep in the part open to the public to make sure that it is structurally sound for tourists. I would be interested in finding out what the exact reason for this closure is. It is really sad they have to close so often because I think it was one of my top 3 sites in Paris. I am glad that you made it!
