I read on Matt’s facebook that he was headed out to Oktoberfest in Munich and it reminded me of our journey there. Two years ago Dee, Karen, Steve and I went to Munich and Oktoberfest. What an amazing time! We wore out our drinking arms lifting the 1 liter and stared in amazement the beer garden ladies holding 5 in each hand! We had some of the best food there, pulled wild boar on a bun, goose with dumplings and weisswurst. Plus the rollercoaster – 5 loops that happen so fast your stomach doesn’t have time to get rid of all the liquid you just drank. The Germans know how to eat, drink and party!

Luckily Dee told me today that Vancouver actually has it’s own Oktoberfest party. Tickets are $30 held at Deutsches Haus Restaurant.. which sounds like a legit German name. It’s held by the Vancouver Alpen Club and should be a good time. It may not have a parade like New York‘s Oktoberfest, but it sure is closer!

Are you doing anything for Oktoberfest this year?

We went to a good German restaurant last night and got beer flights (4 small glasses of different kinds). We’re now planning to do Oktoberfest in Munich in 2013 when we go off again! Can’t wait for it. Any tips on making sure you get a good room? I’d imagine they all sell out fast.

It’s worth the trip Jeremy, tons of fun. Your right that they do sell out super fast and we were lucky to get our room 2 months ahead of time. I’d definitely suggest booking up to a year ahead of time if you want a certain hostel or room.
This Octoberfest looks like a whole lot of fun.
I love the decorations hanging form the ceiling in the first picture.. awesome.
Here in Brazil they have some parties honoring Octoberfest too. It’s not the same exact thing but very similar.
All the best,
Eren

I experienced this festival in Chicago back in 2010. I’d love to take to see it in Germany!

Would love to see the authentic Oktoberfest in Germany. Closer to home though, Cincinnati, OHIO (USA) has an Oktoberfest as well – yes lots of food, beer, brats and more. Cincinnati has a large German population, and an area even known as Over-The-Rhein. Cincinnati loves its beer, brats and saur kraut
I was part of the Oktoberfest party of Chicago in 2010, but the Germany one looks like a whole new experience. I’d like to be part it someday.

I’ve never been to an Oktoberfest before, but I can’t see how a festival that is all about getting drunk could be a bad thing.
