The Pyramids are certainly awe inspiring. It is funny how we all feel exactly the same way. You can't help but think that you are Indiana Jones while in Egypt. Everything is so ancient and even though millions of tourists have gone to these sites, you still feel like you are the first explorer while you walk through these monuments. Awesome

Anil, we had tons of bad experiences with the touts and vendors there. I had somehow blocked it from my memory until you reminded me... thanks! heh, but maybe I'll write a post about the scams of Egypt, cuz it's pretty bad everywhere. Good idea!

Jeremy, Dashur and Saqqara were amazing and so was the step pyramid. But I found that Memphis was a huge letdown. Sure there were tons of statues lying around a giant courtyard, but really no explanations to it at all. And the next day we went to the Egyptian Museum which had a million more times the amount of artifacts. In fact, I wouldn't really suggest anyone go to Memphis.. it wasn't really anything special except the giant Ramses statue. But again, huge statues were in the museum.

Lots of people have terrible experiences there, especially with the vendors. Glad to hear a good story about the Pyramids!

My 10 day trip to Egypt this past August was quite awe inspiring. And yes, Cairo is just the tip of the surface. The ruins out from Aswan (Abu Simbel), and Luxor are some of the best ruins out there. I'm really glad to see that you made it down to Dahshur and Saqqara. Those were amazing sites, and there is absolutely nothing like the Step Pyramid. Did you make it down to Memphis too? No huge pyramids there but tons of excavated statues and a giant Ramses statue that was quite neat to see.
