While beating the heat relaxing by the pool with a fruit shake in Koh Phi Phi I caught this little kitten who was just about to steala sip of my drink!

Shortly after spotting the kitten it started to lick it’s lips… I suddenly felt the feeling like maybe I caught it a few seconds too late!

This two cute little guys were also living at “The Otherside Bungalows” in Vang Viang, Laos. The black and white one loved to come hang out at the sitting area with us. Especially while we were playing cards. The orange one would come meow at our bungalow door and wait to be let in. Which of course I always opened the door for him!

Soon enough we learned from the bungalow owners that these cats were actually rescued. A pair of backpackers found them as frail kittens inside a bag beside the river. They rescued them and kept them in their bungalow, providing them with food, water, and most importantly, lots of love. The backpackers extended their stay in the town much longer then expected just to make sure these little kittens made it. Once they were healthy enough and finally putting on weight the backpackers knew it was well past their time to continue on their travels. So, they approached the owners and asked if they could take the two kittens in as their own. Thankfully the owners said they would do the best they could and from that day on the kittens never left.

Both of them now live a fulfilling life at “The Otherside Bungalows” receiving lots of love from people all around the world.

At “The Otherside Bungalows” in Vang Viang, Laos we quickly learned that the plot of land all the bungalows were on was also a cow pasture. Every day at around the same time of the day a herd of cows would saunter on in and just start grazing and leaving little cow pies. Best part was trying to remember about these little presents left on the ground on your nightly stumble back in the dark. Great times!

So, while Scott and I have been cranking up the heat, turning on the fireplace, and putting on all the warm clothes we can find we’ve been thinking about the places we were enjoying this time last year. Places like the beaches you find on the islands in the south of Thailand. Places that are so hot that you are the most comfortable sitting by the ocean with a drink in only your swimsuit and even then your body gets too hot that you have to go jump in the water.

Ahh…. the beach…. Which brings me to this instalment of Furry Friday. Creatures we’ve met on the beach. First I’ll start with the not so furry ones. But, I’m sure there is some sort of fuzzy feeler hair on their bodies somewhere.

We found plenty of hermit crabs during our beach time on the island of Koh Phayam. It’s always fun to chase them along the beach and grab them by their shells to say a quick hello.

Another Thai beach favourite would have the be the little tiny sand crabs. They were always so busy digging up little sand balls and making such intricate patterns all along the beach. All while doing the typical “run away” when anyone came near leaving many to wonder where these patterns actually came from.

This little beagle followed us for a bit during one of our beach walks. He seemed like he was on quite a mission as he had no time to talk and could only focus on sniffing the ground. Made me wonder is he was a detective trying to solve a murder mystery.

And our last friend for this Furry Friday is this very furry dog. All the dogs we ever saw in Thailand had very short hair except this guy. Not surprisingly at all we always found him frolicking in the water trying to stay cool. We totally understood how he felt as we also found ourselves battling the heat the same way he had too! Sure would love to be this dog right now!

With Halloween around the corner we all have the symbols of fall and nighttime boo’s on our mind… even the big cats living at the Big Cat Rescue Sanctuary are looking forward to the holiday. Check out this video:

Meet Leonard the lazy leopard. We met him when we went to Safari Park in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. Much like us, he likes laying around and playing all day. Hunting humans, eating food and enjoying the good life. But we’ve got a bunch of posts lined up for Vietnam, so stay tuned!

We are back in Canada and have been happily reunited with our cats, Charlie and Kerrigan. However, we don’t get possession of our condo until July so in the meantime Scott and I have been living at my parents place with our cats. My mom has two dogs, Heidi and Peppe, both of which are small chihuahuas. Our cats have been living mostly in my parents “looking room” which is a large mostly unused room with some couches and a dining table. (basically a living room with no TV)

Anyways, Scott and I had to leave for the week leaving our cats to be watched by my parents. I have recently received this notice from my mom on facebook:

To: Deidra & Scott

Official notice of eviction of Charlie & Kerrigan from the Looking Room
Eviction took place today & cats have been relocated to the Elvis Room (Note: my mom’s computer room is full of Elvis pictures)

Reasons for eviction.
1. Behaviour: Both cats were observed sharpening there claws on furniture.
2. Threats: Both cats were threatening other members of the pack & endangering a life {Peppe’s life}
3. Noise: Meowing at the closed doors on repeated occasions.
4. Elopement: Constantly attempting to escape resulting in stress of sitters.
5. Poop: Not using their own bathroom. Evidence was found on floor.
6. Restricted area: Using the dining room table as part of their marathon. (Note: Our cats like to run a marathon every night back and forth every night. Maybe they are exercising?)
7. Boundaries: Have been found sleeping in sitters closet.
8. Mess: Have been leaving hair on couches and horking hair balls.
9. Damage: French doors have evidence of damage

Outcome of Eviction

All there possesions were moved to the Elvis Room. So far the cats have adjusted very well and behaviors have improved. Extra attention & love has been given to them to help adjust to there new environment. Only Kerrigan has attempted to return to the Looking Room. With the Elvis Room door being left open it has somehow created a calming effect. So far the whole pack are respecting there boundaries. Peace at last.

THAILAND TRAVEL ADVISORY WARNING:

Adorable orphan puppies will follow you back to your bungalow and sleep on your front steps. Heartbreaking awes will then ensue from all members of your group and an uncontrollable need to feed the adorable orphans will be unavoidable. Be warned, urgent need to take animals with you will be present.

I thought our cat Charlie was the only cat that sat around looking silly with his tongue sticking out until the day we met this little guy on the island of Koh Tao.

Don’t you just want to reach out and touch that cute little tongue and startle this kitten from it’s peaceful sleep? I know I do… and did! =)

Happy Furry Friday!

There is nothing better in this world than having your kitty come brighten your day when your feeling under the weather. All they need to do is come sit on you and look you in the eyes with a caring “you’ll be okay” face and instantly you start to feel better. It’s quite magical!

Luckily, when I was feeling quite ill in Koh Lanta I met Chip. She had a motherly love that emitted from her and came in our bungalow to hang out with me. She even battled attention against the laptop much like my cats do at home.

How can you not smile and feel better when a kitty is kneading it’s paws into your chest? Thank you Chip for being there in a time of need!
