I am 50 now and I have always been an avid reader and would credit my parents with always having books in the house and making me put some of my pocket money in a “book tin” every week to save for a trip to the book shop! My childhood favourites would include many by Enid Blyton but also The Secret Garden, Little House on the Prairie, Pollyanna and Anne of Green Gables. I always made sure my own children had an endless supply of booksand read to them from day one – using lots of voices and animation to share my enthusiasm. Both could read before starting school and haven’t stopped. Couldn’t pick a couple of books for them but favourite authors would include Michael Rosen, Roald Dhal, Michael Morpurgo and J K Rowling.
I loved Enid Blyton. Started off with my mum reading me the Faraway Tree series. Then I progressed to Famous Five. Island of Adventure series. Five Find Outers etc. One day I was presented with an attendance award at school. It was Charles Kingsley’s Water Babies – still one of my all time favorites.
I did not find out all the children’s book Enid Blyton wrote until I was an adult. There is a website I go to Fantasticfiction.com and that is where I saw she had over 200 titles. I love searching for books. I am tears to talk to someone who read her books. I dont know anyone who is really familiar with her books besides my cousin who loved her books too.
